Conversation with Damir Eskerica, CEO, Moroso
Almost 65 years after its creation, Moroso is in the haute couture league of international design and has become a leading company in the upholstered furniture sector.
Which are your core sectors?
We operate comfortably in a diverse range of sectors: residential, shipbuilding contracts, offices, airports and other commercial public spaces. Over the years we have developed a unique, diversified product portfolio which, combined with our ease working with textiles and leather, means we can respond quickly and really well to the different needs and challenges posed by these different environments.
How much have contracts grown and how much of your production do they represent?
Do you manage to reconcile design with functionality outside a typically residential context?
Contracts have always represented a large share of our work. What we have seen recently is an increasing tendency towards 鈥渕ade-to-measure鈥, custom products professionally designed for a specific space. In this context, we are able to combine our know-how gained during almost 70 years of production with a taste and aesthetic eye that are unique in the market. Our catalog products are often multifaceted and can easily be used both in residential environments and for contracts.
For a few years now we have been witnessing a recovery in the shipbuilding market
an area in which you are very active. What countries and what types of customers come to Moroso for their boat interiors?
The shipbuilding market is undergoing further changes, in part due to the current, unprecedented situation, which is creating challenges that not long ago were unimaginable. This sector has been a source of great satisfaction for us for some years, because it has professionals and customers who regard product quality and durability as fundamentally important. We are focusing on two fronts: cruise ships and private yachts, with ad-hoc production and products from our portfolio respectively.
With contracts, where do you see the most interesting developments?
The world of high-end hospitality is rediscovering the importance of using products that are not only great aesthetically but that also offer added value in terms of quality and value. A recent example is the W Miami hotel, where we are working on a large contract to supply sofas and armchairs designed by Patricia Urquiola. Undoubtedly, the world of contracts, particularly for offices and transport hubs, is adopting the boldest and most obvious changes, because of new guidelines and requirements linked to social distancing.
Since 1952, Moroso has been working in collaboration with the best designers internationally to produce upholstery and seating for high-end furnishings.
In addition to its collections, a synthesis of forms and styles developed over the last thirty years, Moroso offers its own design and production experience for the development and customization of specific projects for the contract and luxury residential market. Thanks to the talents of more than 70 master craftsmen in its production workshop, its network of suppliers of excellence and the use of very high quality materials, attention is paid to every single element contributing to the product鈥檚 uniqueness.
Almost 65 years after its creation, Moroso is in the haute couture league of international design and has become a leading company in the upholstered furniture sector.
Thanks to the creative input of designers like Ron Arad, Patricia Urquiola, Ross Lovegrove, Konstantin Grcic, Alfredo H盲berli, Toshiyuki Kita, Marcel Wanders, Tokujin Yoshioka, Enrico Franzolini, Doshi & Levien, Tord Boontje, Nendo, Front and others, Moroso has, over the years, designed a collection of iconic products that manage to be diverse while retaining an unmistakable signature.
